The rate is one of the important dimensions to define an optical transceiver. The application scenarios of optical transceivers with different rates are different. At present, the most widely used in the market are gigabit optical transceivers, 10-gigabit optical transceivers and 100-megabit optical transceivers. The transmission rate of Gigabit optical transceiver is 1000Mbps; 10 Gigabit is 10Gbps; 100M is 100Mbps. What are the differences and connections between these three optical transceivers with different speeds?
Gigabit optical transceiver: The transmission rate is 1000Mbps, usually expressed by GE, for example, 1.25G also means Gigabit. The packaging of gigabit optical transceivers has developed from GBIC to SFP, and the volume is getting smaller and smaller, and the transmission distance ranges from 550 meters to 160km.
10G optical transceiver: The transmission rate is 10G, and the package is SFP+. XFP is also the package of 10G optical transceivers, but there are very few application scenarios. The most widely used is the SFP+ 10G optical transceiver.
100M optical transceiver
The packaging form of the 100M transceiver and the Gigabit optical transceiver are the same as SFP, and the transmission speed of the 100M transceiver is: 155Mb/s and 622Mb/s.
The existing optical transceiver manufacturers will make a certain degree of compatibility in the rate during the production process of the optical transceiver, that is, the backward compatibility of the optical transceiver. After the optical transceiver is operated on the software or the optical transceiver is modified, the 10G optical transceiver can be used as a Gigabit optical transceiver, and the Gigabit optical transceiver can be used as a 100M optical transceiver. Customers will not have any problems during use, but because optical transceiver need to be modified or software operations are required, when customers purchase transceiver, they should consider the actual usage and choose transceiver with different rates.
Taking the Copper RJ-45 Transceiver as an example, the widely used Copper RJ-45 Transceiver on the market include adaptive Copper RJ-45 Transceiver and pure gigabit Copper RJ-45 Transceiver. The adaptive Copper RJ-45 Transceiver are Copper RJ-45 Transceiver that can be used in 10M 100M 1000M rate environments. A pure gigabit Copper RJ-45 Transceiver is a Copper RJ-45 Transceiver that can only be used in a gigabit rate environment. The existence of the self-adaptive Copper RJ-45 Transceiver is the product of the previous network rate upgrade and iteration. At present, because the network rate has been stabilized, the pure gigabit Copper RJ-45 Transceiver is widely used. In addition, the stability and compatibility of the pure Gigabit Copper RJ-45 Transceiver is better than that of the self-adaptive Copper RJ-45 Transceiver.
