Realizing conversion between optical port and electrical port: SFP-GE-T

What is an electrical port module?


The electrical port module is also called an optical-to-electrical module. It is a module that supports hot swapping and is packaged in SFP. The connector type is RJ45. In addition, since the transmission distance of the electrical port module is 10-30m or 80-100m, the electrical port module is mainly used for short-distance data transmission.


The function of the optical port to electrical port module


The optical port to electrical port module is mainly used to solve the interconnection problem between optical equipment and electrical equipment. It can convert optical fiber signals into electrical signals, allowing optical devices to communicate with electrical devices.


Classification of electrical port modules


According to different technical standards and transmission rates, electrical port modules can be divided into various types. According to the packaging classification, electrical port modules can be divided into three categories: SFP electrical port module, SFP+ electrical port module and GBIC electrical port module. According to the transmission rate, it can be divided into 100M electrical port module, Gigabit electrical port module, adaptive electrical port module and 10G electrical port module. The 100M electrical port module is an electrical port module with a transmission rate of 100M. The Gigabit electrical port module is an electrical port module with a transmission rate of 100M. The adaptive electrical port module is an electrical port that meets the three rates of 10/100/1000BASE. Modules (100M electrical port module, Gigabit electrical port module, adaptive electrical port module are all SFP electrical port modules), 10G electrical port module has a transmission rate of 10G. Electrical port modules with different rates are suitable for different types of networks;


1. 10 Gigabit electrical port module: An electrical port module that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet signals with a transmission rate of 10Gbps. It is commonly used in high-speed network environments such as data centers and cloud computing.

2. Gigabit electrical port module: An electrical port module that supports Gigabit Ethernet signals with a transmission rate of 1Gbps and is widely used in various enterprise networks and home networks.

3. Adaptive electrical port module: It is suitable for different types of network equipment, such as switches, routers, etc.

4. 100M electrical port module: The highest supported rate is 100M, usually used on 100M SFP interface. Since 100BASE-T ports are mostly provided through the native RJ-45 ports of switches and network cards, the usage scenarios of this module are relatively limited.

 

Maximum rate and transmission distance of electrical port module


The maximum transmission rate of the 100M electrical port module is 155M, the maximum transmission rate of the Gigabit electrical port module is 1Gbps, and the maximum transmission rate of the 10G electrical port module is 10Gbps. These rates are sufficient for most network communication needs. The maximum transmission distance of SFP electrical port module (Gigabit electrical port module and below) is 100m, and the maximum transmission distance of SFP+ electrical port module (10G electrical port module) is 30m.


How to use the electrical port module


When using an electrical port module, you first need to ensure that the interfaces between the device and the electrical port module are consistent, and the corresponding optical fibers or cables are correctly connected. Then, insert the electrical module into the corresponding slot of the device and ensure a secure connection. Next, make the corresponding configuration according to the device's operation interface or indicator lights.
